Our welcoming team will review your submission. We'll then schedule an initial phone interview to discuss your experience, answer your questions, and ensure a mutual fit.

Participate in our tailored training program, designed for both handlers and dogs. This includes behavior assessments, facility etiquette, and certification preparation.

Complete a standard background check, and provide necessary health documentation for your dog, ensuring safety and trust for all our clients and partners.

Who Can Volunteer?

Handler Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Possess excellent communication and empathy skills
  • Able to commit to regular visits (2-4 hours/month)
  • Pass a background check
  • Have reliable transportation

Dog Requirements

  • At least 1 year old
  • Up-to-date on all vaccinations
  • Well-behaved, calm, and friendly with strangers
  • Passes a temperament test and health screening
  • Comfortable in various environments

Our Comprehensive Training Program

Our specialized training program is designed to equip both handlers and their dogs with the skills and confidence needed for successful therapy visits. You'll learn:

  • Safe handling techniques and canine body language

Your Volunteer Questions Answered

We ask for a minimum commitment of 2-4 hours per month, but many of our volunteers choose to dedicate more time based on their availability and passion. We are flexible and appreciative of any time you can share.
Yes! Many of our most cherished therapy dogs are rescues. As long as your dog meets our temperament and health requirements, their background does not matter – only their heart and readiness to connect.
No prior experience is required! We provide comprehensive training for both new handlers and their dogs, covering everything from interaction techniques to safety protocols.
